The cadre of the of SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment 24 "Danmark" was provided from the surviving troops from some of the already existing Germanic units in the Waffen SS: Freikorps Danmark and the SS Infanterie Regiment "Nordland" Almost every volunteers from Nordschleswig, who had served in the Infanterie Regiment "Nordland" were tranfered to this unit in 1943.

SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment 24 "Danmark" saw action almost from day one, as it along with the rest of the III. Germanische SS Panzer Korps was transfered to Croatia few months after the establisment in May 1943 in Grafenwöhr. In Croatia the regiment was heavily engaged in the fightings against partisans in the areas around the cities Petrinja and Glina.

The SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment 24 "Danmark" was attached to the 11. Freiwilligen Panzer Grenadier Division "Nordland" throughout the war. The SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment 24 "Danmark" was destroyed with the "Nordland" Division during the battle of Berlin in April-May 1945.

Due to the heavy loses, suffered during the battle of Narwa, the
1. Bataillon
SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment 24 "Danmark"
was early 1944 withdrawn from the frontline to regroup.
 
In December 1944 Budapest had been encircled by massive Russian forces. A liberation of the city would demand a large force of German troops. In order to provide enought troops for the operation, the 1.Bataillon of the SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment 24 "Danmark" was attached to the 5. SS Panzer Division "Wiking", which was a part the IV SS Panzer Korps.

The attempt to liberate Budapest by the IV SS Panzer Korps failed and the IV SS Panzer Korps was forced to retreat out of Hungary along with rest of the German Army. During the retreat out of Hungary in the Spring of 1945 the

was totally destroyed and only a very few members of the Bataillon servived.
