Johanes Koopmann was born 17.08.1920 in Sonderburg in Nordschleswig.

He joined the Waffen SS in 1940 and was transfered to the

4. Kompanie
SS Infanterie Regiment "Nordland"
in Klagenfurt.
 
In the summer of 1941 he came with the SS Regiment "Nordland" to Russia and was wounded in November 1941 at the Mius front.
After some months of recovery, he was 1942 transfered to the Germanic Legion "Freikorps Danmark"
 
Late 1942 he was transfered to the SS Ersatz Kommando Dänemark in Copenhagen, where he served until he was sent to the
11. Junkerlehrgang at the Junkerschule in Bad Tölz in September 1943.
He ended the course in Marz 1944 as the number 1. of his class (Lehrgangsbester) and was promoted to SS Untersturmführer on 10. Marz 1944
 
Just after the Junkerschule Koopmann was sent to Narwa at the easternfront and became Kompanieführer of 7. Kompanie SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment 24 "Danmark".

Johannes Koopmann was killed during a close combat with russian troops in the Gefechtsvorpost "Sonnenschein" at Narwa on 12. June 1944.

As Johannes Koopmann had been KIA in June 1944, he never recieved his promotion document. It was then handed over to his brother, Paul Koopmann, who served as an SS Untersturmführer at the
